Data center infrastructure management (DCIM)
DCIM is a business process, as much as a technology. As for any new process, it is important to have an internal plan which reflects your key business priorities, what you can expect from a DCIM implementation, and metrics for how to measure success.
DCIM consists of tools to monitor, measure, manage and/or control data center utilization and energy consumption of all IT-related equipment (such as servers, storage and network switches) and facility infrastructure components (such as power distribution units [PDUs] and computer room air conditioners [CRACs]).
DCIM can go a long way to helping your data center better serve the business, be more efficient, spend less money and mitigate risk.
